Alison Jane was determined to create a lasting legacy after her partner Craig sadly passed in 2015 from a long illness caused by an undetected cancer. After tackling her first Great North Run in 2014, she hopes her 2021 efforts will see her surpass an incredible £7,000 raised for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation (SBRF).
Alison’s Story
Alison said: “I decided to do my first GNR in 2014 when Craig was ill, as I felt fundraising was one of the few useful things I could do at that time. I asked Craig’s oncologist who to raise money for and she suggested The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which felt very apt as a Newcastle United season ticket holder who had huge respect for all of Sir Bobby’s footballing achievements! I had never been a runner before and usually avoided exercise at all costs, but I’ve run various races – including GNR – to raise money for them every year since.”
She added: “I’m doing this for Craig, for those I know who have survived cancer, and in memory of others loved by me, my friends and family who we have lost to this horrible disease.”.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, and is dedicated to finding more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
Alison has run 540 miles so far this year, and is only £33.00 away from reaching her £7,000 target.
