Since January 2022, we have been collaborating with the Open University to host creative writing workshops for Newcastle Hospitals staff, as part of our new Arts Programme. The online workshops have been facilitated by the Open University Creative Writing team, Sally Blackburn-Daniels and Siobhan Campbell, alongside Nurse Practitioner Mel McEvoy of NT&H NHS Trust.
We are now opening up the creative writing opportunity again for all Newcastle Hospitals staff, offering the chance for them to have their pieces of creative writing produced and displayed on our Trust sites.
We’re excited to explore the talent of our Trust staff and find ways to share with colleagues, patients and visitors. There are also prizes up for grabs, with 3 works selected and awarded book tokens of £25 or £50.
Writing is embedded in our Trust’s history, as the philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, was once a laboratory assistant at the RVI, and the plaque that hangs in Peacock Hall was unveiled by eminent philosopher Dr Mary Midgley!
We know that our staff continue to be creative, and look forward to unearthing and giving visibility to your talents.
Eligibility
- Any current member of Trust staff can enter
- The pieces of writing must not exceed 250 word count, there is no minimum
- The writing can be a poem, prose, memoir, fiction or non-fiction on any subject you like – not just about work!
- The work can be funny, heartfelt, personal – whatever you’d like to share
- You don’t need to have taken part in the workshops to apply
- Applications must be submitted no later than 5pm, Monday 2 May 2022
- One submission per person please
Creative writing is proven to help our wellbeing, recognise thoughts and feelings that we might find difficult to explain, and the best thing about it… there are no rules!
